on the receipt of your despatch Xo. 174 (4984/21) of the 7th instant, I sounded the Chins Asso si a ti on and the British Chamber of Commerce con fi den ti ally as to their views on the abolition of foreign post offices in China.
I now have the honour to enclose a copy of the reply I have received from the Chamber of Commerce from which it will be seen that they raise no objection to the proposal provided it is sarried out gradually, beginning with the smaller porta and leaving Shanghai to the last.
